ABS Standard Natural Refrigerant Hazardous Location Freezers

Category Explosion-Proof Refrigerators & Freezers
Manufacturer American BioTech Supply
Country of manufacture the United States of America

Our explosion proof freezers meet NFPA and OSHA guidelines for Hazardous Location, Class 1, Division II, Groups C & D guidelines. Units are not intended for use in general clinical or research laboratories. Models feature a microprocessor temperature controller, allowing for precise temperature control, recovery and maintenance versus mechanical style thermostats.

All spark generating electrical components and connections (compressor, thermostat) are isolated and sealed in vapor-proof enclosures. Electrical wiring is hardwired for additional safety measures.

Models utilize environmentally friendly, natural hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants (not containing hydrofluorocarbons) vastly reduce global-warming potential (GWP) while meeting new EPA/SNAP mandates and UL, ASHRAE compliance guidelines.

Please Note: Power cord is not included. Final power connections at site must be hardwired to meet local codes. Periodic Manual Defrosting is required.

What is the difference between a "Hazardous Location" freezer and an "Explosion-Proof" freezer?

Only the name. There is no technical difference. The certification that the freezers have is the same, and they are both designed to prevent the combustion of volatile vapors both inside and out.

We suspect that the decision to call them "hazardous location" rather than "explosion-proof" was one made by a lawyer. After all, if you used explosives, you could undoubtedly blow up an "explosion-proof" freezer. Don't try it, though.

Are the American Biotech Supply Natural Refrigerant Hazardous Location Freezers also suitable for flammable materials storage?

Yes. The ABS Hazardous Location Freezers are designed to be completely spark-free inside and out and all electrical components are sealed.
