Our explosion proof refrigerators meet NFPA and OSHA guidelines for Hazardous Location, Class 1, Division II, Groups C & D guidelines. All spark generating electrical components and connections (compressor, thermostat) are isolated and sealed in vapor-proof enclosures. Electrical wiring is hardwired for additional safety measures.

Models utilize environmentally friendly, natural hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants (not containing hydrofluorocarbons) vastly reduce global-warming potential (GWP) while meeting new EPA/SNAP mandates and UL, ASHRAE compliance guidelines

    FAQ

What is the difference between a "Hazardous Location" freezer and an "Explosion-Proof" refrigerator?

Only the name. There is no technical difference. The certification that the refrigerators have is the same, and they are both designed to prevent the combustion of volatile vapors both inside and out.

We suspect that the decision to call them "hazardous location" rather than "explosion-proof" was one made by a lawyer. After all, if you used explosives, you could undoubtedly blow up an "explosion-proof" refrigerator. Don't try it, though.

Are the American Biotech Supply Standard Natural Refrigerant Hazardous Location Refrigerators also suitable for flammable materials storage?

Yes. The ABS Hazardous Location Refrigerators are designed to be completely spark-free inside and out and all electrical components are sealed.
